About Mixed Age Group

Montessori Kids Academy practices mixed-age group which accordance to the Montessori philosophy. A mixed-age group refers to a classroom setting where children of different ages learn together. This approach is fundamental to Montessori philosophy and typically involves grouping children in three-year age spans.

Here, in Montesssori Kids Academy, we have two groupings :

Toddler – 1.5 years to 3 years old

Kindy –     3 years to 6 years old.

The benefits of mixed-age groups in Montessori education include:

Peer Learning: Older children reinforce their own learning by teaching concepts they have already mastered to younger children. Younger children benefit from observing and interacting with older peers, which enhances their understanding and motivates them.

Social Development: Children develop strong social skills as they interact with peers of varying ages. They learn to communicate, collaborate, and empathize with others who are at different developmental stages.

Individualized Learning: Teachers can tailor their instruction to meet the individual needs of each child. The mixed-age setting allows for flexible pacing, so children can progress at their own rate without the pressure of keeping up with or slowing down for same-age peers.

Leadership and Responsibility: Older children often take on leadership roles, helping to guide and support the younger ones. This fosters a sense of responsibility and boosts their self-esteem.

Natural Environment: The mixed-age classroom mirrors real-life social environments where individuals interact with people of all ages, preparing children for real-world experiences.

Overall, mixed-age groups in Montessori education create a dynamic and supportive learning environment that benefits children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development.
